exterior of an English heritage house in shaughnessy vancouver
Project

Shaughnessy Estate

The renovation of this magnificent heritage home, built in 1911, required careful planning to ensure the integrity of the original exterior was preserved while we updated the full interior layout with modern design features.

Project

Bespoke Details

Originally designed for Sir Thomas Shaughnessy, president of the Canadian Pacific Railway, this historic English Arts and Crafts-style house flaunts asymmetrical gable ends and a cross-gable roof, a unique central tower, wood casement windows with leaded glass, and a lush landscaped garden with mature trees. Preserving the unique architectural elements of the exterior is integral to honouring the original character of the home, which is why our renovation focuses solely on modernizing the interior. Adding Italian granite stones, Boffi Italian kitchens, new European-engineered oak flooring, and a geothermal mechanical system will revamp the gorgeous interior space. We are also retiling the indoor pool — an addition in the 1990s — improving energy efficiency with a custom pool cover, and reconfiguring the mechanical room to renovate a spa bathroom.
