Bespoke Details

Following the designer’s thoughtful lead, we approached this renovation using universal design principles that balance family interactivity with the necessity for separation. Prioritizing our client’s unique needs, we focused on enhanced functionality without compromising on style. Because the client’s parents were moving into the home, we made several bespoke modifications to allow for wheelchair access without altering the structure or footprint of the house. The interior foyer was transformed into a semi-private in-law suite with widened doorways and slab on grade floors with tile installation for durability and aesthetics. A complex elevator retrofit with heavily insulated walls to reduce noise provides access to the upstairs bedroom suite and custom bathroom, featuring a roll-in shower and pull-in vanity. Replacing a billiards room, the new kitchen features a state-of-the-art accessible layout including pull-down shelving, roll-under sink, durable quartz countertops made safe with square-eased edges, a slide-out prep space, and a brand-new wine chiller. We switched lighting to LED pot lights for energy efficiency and used light colours throughout to reflect natural light and reduce electricity needs. Finally, we included Lutron remote light switches in the accessible suite for modern convenience. Now every family member can live comfortably and safely in the refreshed home!
